A Dash of Color

This page was looking mighty drab, so I thought I’d add some color. I’ll also add a few random updates:

I’ve now been back from China longer than I was there. This means that I may no longer bring it up in conversation, under penalty of law.

The snow season is almost over — I’m trying to squeeze in some trips before the snow all melts. I went twice this week.

This guy went much, much further with his self-imposed restriction (and for similar reasons) — hopefully he won’t quit after two days like weaker people. I’m still tinkering with the balance, but I’ll do it in private for a while, so I don’t bug anyone (you?).

I’ll be in Salt Lake City next week (and two weeks after that, and two weeks after that). I’ve got some friends from High School in Park City — but what should I do in Salt Lake itself? The guides I’ve looked at all seem to say that going to the mall is one of the top three attractions. I hope the Sbarro’s and Cinnabon there are as good as they are here!

When you’re unemployed, people demand you tell them what you did with your day. In detail. Before, no one ever cared — can you blame them?

  1. Hi Filipe,

In my mind Salt Lake City is all about sports and the outdoors. I would go skiing, skiing, and skiing. Make sure you go to Alta and Snowbird in addition to Park City and Deer Valley. You should also try backcountry skiing (you may find some great photo opportunities around here), and maybe speed skating in Kearns.

Golf season will probably also open in the next weeks. Salt Lake is one of those few places where you can ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon.

Other than that, go to a Utah Jazz game if you like basketball, and go enjoy restaurants and nightlife downtown Salt Lake.

And if you’re bored, come do some WPF coding with me! :-)

  2. It takes twice as long to get over a place you lived. So you’ve got some more time to talk about China.

Come ski in Colorado…you’ve got until mid April before the resorts close.

You’ll never be able to use the internet for less than 30 minutes a day. I’ve known you too long to see that as a possibility. If you can for a month, I’ll buy you a beer (or lots) at the reunion.

Why Salt Lake? Work for the unemployed?

So what have you been doing with your days besides snow sports?

  3. Tor — Thanks for the tips! I’ll definitely be hitting the snow at Park City, but maybe I can check out some of those other spots. I’m not into Golf, but I’m sure I can find some decent running routes.

Pete — I’ll be in SLC for work-type stuff, so we’ll see how much free time I end up with there.

You said running is a good way to see a city… and to escape Mormons…
